You just brought home a new puppy and you need somewhere for it to sleep. You could let the pup sleep on some old pillows and blankets. This is supposed to be your best friend right, would you let your best friend sleep on old smelly blankets, no you wouldn't. So it is time to look into dog beds. This can be an interesting affair if you don't know what you're looking for in a new dog bed. There are many types of dog beds that you can choose from, so getting the right one is hard. There aren't just size issues you have to look for when choosing a bed. This article will cover a few of the options that you have for your new pooch. Let start with size since it is the best starting point.

Size

Yes, size is very important when picking out a bed for your dog. You want something that your dog can stretch out and roll around. If your dog can't get into his/her bed and wallow around a bit, he/she isn't going to be comfortable. So if your dog doesn't like it, you just wasted good money. Just because it is on clearance for 9.99 at your local store, doesn't mean your dog will like it. Make this one of the top options on choosing your next dog bed. Next we will cover the lining of the bed.

Lining

The lining of your dogs bed can be just as important as size. Some dogs like soft, and some like rough lining. It is something you might have to play around with. Try and find something fluffy and curly. If it looks like sheep wool and soft, that is a great start. I wouldn't recommend spending a lot on this feature until you find the one your dog likes. The lining options include vinyl, hypoallergenic, cedar, leather, fleece, and others. Now you find the right lining, let's look at options.

Options

Like the bed you sleep in at night, your dog's bed has a couple options that you might want to add.

Heating is always a great option for your pooch. This can help when you have to keep the doggie bed somewhere cold like in his dog house, or a basement corner. Even if you don't have your bed in a cold place, a heated bed could help when your dog gets up there in age. Heating will comfort your aging dog bones, making him/her feel better.

Memory foam seems to becoming big now days. This option will allow your dog to really make his/her bed really theirs. This is very useful when they need support with weak/aging bones. This will also help if your do is ever sick.

Waterbeds are something that has popped up here and there in the industry. They can be great for dogs that like being rocked to sleep, like a baby. They can also be heat like other beds. They are not recommended for larger breed or dogs with long nails. Also, if your dog likes to chew on things, this option isn't the greatest in the world.

Bedcovering can offer extra privacy for dogs that are shy. They can either cover the whole bed like a tent with the bed inside. The other option is a zip up add-on type. Some beds come with this option if you look hard enough.

Closing

I know you didn't think that getting a new bed for your bed would have so many options. Picking out a dog bed can be hard at times, but it is can be fun. It's for your new best friend, your dog, your companion. I hope you liked this article and learned something new today.
