Catfish fishing is one of the most interesting experiences you'll have as an angler. These fish are very unique and each person's experience will differ but some things about the sport stay the same. No matter what your skill level, you can partake in catfish fishing.

While the fish are very aggressive even beginners can hook them if they know what to do. Many factors go into catching catfish but none is more important than the bait.

Catfish tend to live in places that have low visibility if any at all. They rely more on their ability to smell out their food than anything else. This means that the smellier and more stinky the bait the better. Things that might seem repulsive to us and even other animals, is perfect for the catfish. The nature of the catfish is what makes fishing for them so much fun.

The catfish can live in all sorts of environments but prefer to live in more dark and obstructed waters. Fishing them out with typical bait might not be enough to get them to bite. If you make bait they just can't ignore, than your chances of catching catfish just went up. Some of the best catfish bait can be made right at home. There are anglers that swear by the fact that the only bait worth using is homemade catfish bait.

Homemade Catfish Bait
There are many different types of baits that you can use to catch catfish but maybe none as great as homemade catfish bait. When you make bait yourself you not only save on money but you have the ability to choose how you make it. This gives you unlimited amount of flexibility and gives you that much more pride when you catch a massive fish from your own bait.

Many anglers will argue what the best homemade bait is but all will agree that homemade bait offers a more thrilling experience when catching fish. Here are three homemade baits you can make at home that will help you increase your successes of catching catfish.

Chicken Livers
Chicken livers are arguably one of the best catfish baits you'll find. First you'll want to buy some from your local grocer and a few zip-lock baggies. Just putting the livers on a hook won't do the trick you'll want to prepare them.

Remember that the more they smell the better. To achieve the maximum amount of aroma from the livers you'll want to cover them in garlic or some other strong herb.
