Dog allergies are usually not fully diagnosed.

That's because the procedure of allergy testing is quite expensive and the results usually leave the pet owner with more inquiries. It has been proven that the most usual skin problems in dogs are brought about by atopical or inhalant allergies, followed next by allergic reactions that result from skin to skin contact.

As a dog owner and lover, you should understand that some breeds are at a higher risk of acquiring seasonal response to allergens such as grass fungus or even pollens. Because of this, you may notice dog skin problems more often during the summer season.

Dog skin allergies can be seasonal, environmental or both. Normally, when you bring your pet to the vet and he can't find a particular allergen like food, mite or insect, the diagnosis will most likely be 'atopic dermatitis', which involves an allergic retort to what your dog has inhaled.

It's important to note that almost every dog regardless of breed will experience allergies or skin problems in his or her lifetime. While most dogs are sensitive to fleabites, you should realize that what might come out as a simple allergy can be an indistinguishable infestation of fungal or bacterial infection or mites deep in your dog's skin. This type of skin problem is frequently misdiagnosed as an allergic reaction but keep in mind that it can't be eliminated with the typical antibiotic or steroid treatments.

When you consult with a vet, your dog will be prescribed with a special medicated shampoo. You will have to bathe your Fido three times a week or more. You should not just purchase any type of dog shampoo because quick fix treatments do little to nothing to cure your dog's allergies. To relieve excessive itching of your dog, before you take him to the vet, you can utilize cooling sea salt soaks or natural dog balms (see later), which can give your dog's skin a calming and soothing feeling.

Vets may advise you when curing allergies to change your dog's current diet and eating patterns. Many dogs are sensitive to specific grains and other ingredients found in commercial dog food. You will be required to eliminate food with ingredients such as steroid, SLS, or petroleum. Subsequently, dogs are given antihistamines and/or steroids to cure the symptoms of itching, flaking and inflammation.

You can easily detect if your pet is suffering from dog skin problems if you are observant and you immediately examine your dog once you notice any changes in his or her behavior. Prevention is definitely better in this case. Make sure that your dog is active and is eating the right food and also give him or her vitamins to keep his immune system functioning at its peak.
