You can easily recognize digital SLR cameras from the standard digicam. For many the DSLR is more popular than the digicam. The reason is digital SLR has something better than other cameras. Also, it is important to note that usually the DSLRs are expensive in comparison to other cameras. If you have to invest on a camera, before hand it is important to now the differences between digital SLR cameras and ordinary digicam. There are advantages as well as disadvantages on Digital Single Reflex Cameras. However, the advantages or benefits are greater than many ordinary point and shoot digital cameras

1.More Flexibility

The most important advantage of DSLR (over Digicam) is its flexibility to interchange many types of lenses. There are over many different kinds of lenses available that can be used with digital SLR cameras. They all also more functions that could be put to use for obtaining incredible photos. If you want to capture an entire mountain, then select an ultra wide lens. Similarly, if you want to focus on a subject and at the same time ignore the background, you have to select a telephoto lens. You are assured of better Image quality when use digital single-lens reflex cameras. When compared to digital cameras, DSLRs will produce a better picture even if both have the equal number of mega-pixel. This is more evident with DSLR cameras having higher light sensitivity.

3.Better Performance

Compared to Digicams, DSLR cameras have better performance in terms of quicker autofocus, shorter shutter delay, bigger memory capacity and fast response during continuos shooting. Additionally, digital SLR cameras have more functions than point and shoot cameras. For example, most of the buttons are easily operated using the thumb and forefinger. Do not get confused due to many buttons available in DSLR because most important ones are easily pressed instead of menu accesses.

3.Easily Upgradable

The DSLR can be used for many years without getting outdated because it can be easily upgradable. Many accessories are available for upgrade in many camera shops locally and overseas. There are many accessories such powerful flashes, reliable and easy to operate power sources, wireless transmitters and remote triggering devices for you to take the photographic expedition to different level.

4.Advantages & Disadvantages

While you know the advantages one should know the disadvantages or the limitations of DSLR cameras. As you already know, DSLRs are bigger and heavier than digicams. This is because the DSLR posses a bigger mirror system and pentaprism. Since many accessories have to accompany the DSLR the overall weight of DSLR gear is heavier. Also, unlike the point and shoot camera, one who is new to photography will find it difficult to operate the DSLR straight away.

He will have to get familiarized or practice using the numerous operation of a DSLR.

Additionally, one would find it difficult to change lenses continuously or operate numerous buttons. Finally, investing on a DSLR camera is expensive,as such owning a DSLR will be out of reach for many.
