Indoor Rock Climbing: Enjoying A New Kind Of Challenge

If you are looking for some physical and mental challenge, you should try your hands on indoor rock climbing. Yes, indoor rock climbing may not be the safest type of sport in the planet but since you are looking for some challenge, you might as well go for something that has a tinge of danger into it. Technically, indoor rock climbing is not really as dangerous as outdoor rock climbing and accidents rarely happen inside a well managed and well maintained rock climbing center so just relax and have some fun. Beside, indoor rock climbing gyms provide coaches and mentors to beginners so even if you have not really tried climbing in your entire life, you can still feel confident that you won't make a fool of yourself in front of the other climbers.

Getting Started

It takes a lot of physical and mental strength to learn the art of indoor rock climbing. Do not be fooled with those videos featuring professional rock climbers. These people have been climbing rocks for many years so they are up to the physical demands of the sport. Since these people are physically fit, they do not usually sweat a lot or huff and puff visibly during the climb. You on the other hand are still a beginner and if you have been a couch potato for sometime, there is a big possibility that the physical demands of this sport will get to you. Yes, you will probably sweat and scream in frustration the first time you attempt to scale the wall so be prepared to meet all the physical demands of the sport. To get ready for the climb, you should do some warm up exercises. Better yet, you should exercise a bit more before you even try doing some indoor rock climbing. Jogging and walking for at least 15 minutes a day should help you prepare for the challenges of rock climbing.

Once you feel that you are physically ready to try indoor rock climbing, head to the nearest indoor rock climbing gym in your area and enroll in one of their beginners' program. As much as possible, go for afternoon classes. According to experts, our muscles are more flexible around the middle of the afternoon so it would be better if you try doing indoor rock climbing around this time. This way, you minimize the risk of pulling those rigid muscles of yours and causing some damage.
