When you are looking to put a new fence in your home, you will undoubtedly be unsure of what to choose. In this article we will discuss the difference between choosing treated timber or untreated hardwood. You need to educate yourself on this because you will undoubtedly be faced with an option between the two.

First of all; we will talk about untreated hardwood. This is a very beautiful and in demand type of wood, but unfortunately, just as its name suggests, it is very hard! This makes it that the production of hardwood is very expensive, as the wood is very difficult to cut and manipulate. Due to the fact that it is costing the manufacturers a lot of time and effort to make the fencing, it is going to cost you more money to buy it. If you are looking for an affordable fence, these are definitely some considerations you have to make.

The next we will talk about the negative impact of the hardwood being untreated. Although you would have incredible difficulty cutting through the hardwood with an axe or chainsaw, fungi, borers and the climate will easily cause irreparable damage to the wood. They eat away at the grains of the wood, causing it to split and weaken. Once this kind of damage has been done, it cannot be reversed! The climate is a real factor, as the effects of rain and snow will damage the wood badly over time. This does not make it a very logical choice if you live in a wet or humid climate.

Now we will move on to discuss treated timber. Due to all the obvious pitfalls of untreated timber, it is easy to see why one would want to choose treated timber. Treated timber has been specially treated to protect it against termites, heat, water, fungi, water and microscopic damage. A well treated timber fence can last for decades, without showing any signs of weathering. Treated timber is also more affordable than untreated timber, believe it or not, because it is easier for the manufacturers to work with. If you are looking for a long term solution that you will not have to spend lots of money on in the future, then treated timber is your choice. If you live in a humid climate, or one that is prone to rain, then you should definitely choose timber, because you do not want your fence rotting quickly. At least you can also rest assured that your fence not only looks beautiful, but will last for many years to come!

Naturally, it is not hard to see that treated timber is definitely your best choice. You can find a good supplier on the internet, as most will have an online presence. You should be able to look through a brochure of the types of fences they have to offer. Make sure that the provider you are interested in has treated timber and all the information on how it is treated.
