In recent years, celebrities have started the trend of dressing their dogs in dog clothes; no longer were they content with little Fido wearing your standard tartan dog coat, now their pets have hoodies, parkas and shoes in order to go outside. Initially there was a massive uproar from animal rights groups saying that it wasn't right that pets be dressed as people, yet the only difference between the dog coats that we've all become accustomed to and the newly available designer gear on offer is a label.

Dogs have become increasingly domesticated and it's rare to find a family where the dog isn't allowed to at least sleep inside; because of this they aren't used to the wind, rain and cold temperatures that dog owners often have to take their pets out for walks in. There are those who wholly oppose the idea of dogs wearing any form of jacket, regardless of whether or not they're designer, yet horses in fields wear coats at night time and in the winter.

The only coats that used to be on offer were either beige, khaki green or a tartan pattern; now you can dress your pooch in Gucci, Prada, Armani or Dolce and Gabbana. Why must man's best friend be condemned to a life of bland covers? Not only are the new designer dog clothes more aesthetically pleasing, but the hoodies and zip up parka jackets on offer keep your dog warmer than traditional dog coats do.

With celebrity culture becoming embedded in our daily living, why not follow the trend and buy your dog an Argyle sweater so he can look preppy and adorable. Or give him a t shirt with 'Security' written on the back so everybody knows not to come onto your property without an invitation. You can buy a range of t shirts and sweaters to really make your dog one of the family.

If you feel that you dog would rather eat clothes than wear them, then there are a range of dog accessories that you can give your dog that reflect your own sense of style. For instance, there are collars and leads studded with diamante if you feel that you need to make your dog a bit more glamorous. Or if bling isn't your thing, you could always go for collars and leads decorated in vibrant colours. You can also purchase leather bound bowls that look so formal that you dog will feel like the executive of the house.

Celebrities often start trends that people don't want to follow, but clothes for dogs has already had a positive response from most people and it seems that the following is growing by the day.
