How and Why to Train Your Dog Without Treats

Many dog owners rely on training their dogs with treats because it is an easy and effective way of training a puppy that has been proven to work. However, training your pet to be reliant on treats makes a dog that doesn't naturally act appropriately in public -- but a pet that is instead prone to acting out in order to get a dog bisquit. Our pets know what they can get away with and what they cannot, and if we let them continue to think this way they will walk all over us and eat all of our dog treats at their leisure.tn requin

I have always recommended a system that encourages physical bonding and close contact over rewarding canines with tidbits. If you can give your pet affection instead of treats it will be more calm in tense situations because you can just give it a reassuring dog or scratch behind the ear. By training a dog to rely on treats they are being told (through the owner's actions) that a dog bisquit comes into play when a pet starts acting rowdy. Although pets might not consider logically or in a complex manner, they do think -- and in my experience they can connect the dots quite well -- If every time they start barking and making a fuss and you pull out a treat to get their attention and silence them, they think "When i bark and holler at other pets i get a dog bisquit, so I am going to keep on doing that because my behavior is be rewarded."nike tn

Your posture and how you carry yourself with your canine is extremely critical. Dogs can sense if you are tense or stressed or angry, they use your body language to see this, and if they sense weakness they can become sinister and unruly. They crave boundries and regulations and restrictions (they just don't know it). If you do not appear to be a steadfast and all-powerful owner for your dog they will walk all over you. You must remain dominant or you will have a dog that is constantly testing to see if they can get away with what they want. You must stand up straight, walk tall and appear confident and steadfast around you pet. This may go against your nature, but it is very considerable when conditioning your dog.

By training your pet through petting and head rubs instead of treats and snacks you are training a more well behaved and reliable dog. Even though treats may work, and still can be used on special occasions, you can get a much more enjoyable connection out of your dog if you keep them to a minimum. If you are not careful you can turn your little puppy into a treat crazed hound that values doggy treats above all else. It is important not to give in, you must be hard even though it may be tough with a cute little puppy, you will be rewarded in the long run. By following these tips you should be able to turn your untrained puppy into a near perfect dog.
