If your dog is showing signs of aggression, you might think about locking him up or sending him to a professional training school for dogs. But, what you may not realize is that training aggressive dogs is actually best done at home. Why? Well, there are three main reasons why aggressive dogs are best trained in the comfort of your own home. First, it will cost you next to nothing. Second, you can ensure your dog's safety at all times. Third, it is a lot more effective than outside training.

You are the one who will be spending the most time with your dog, so it is only logical for you to be the one to train him. If you hire another individual to train your dog, then he will most likely have a hard time taking orders from you. Furthermore, your home is the place where your dog will spend most of his time, so it is best to train him there, where he feels most comfortable and secure.

Before you begin the actual training process, there are a couple of things you will have to take into consideration. First, you'll have to understand the reason behind training aggressive dogs. This involves identifying the specific traits and behaviours that you want to change or correct in your dog. Second, you'll have to find out the exact reasons why your dog is exhibiting aggressive behaviour. Understanding where the hostility is coming from is the first step towards correcting the behaviour and building a strong bond between you and your dog.

Aggression in dogs is almost always related to their nature and instincts, specifically their need to protect that which they consider theirs. To illustrate, there are three basic types of dog aggression. The first is known as dominance aggression. It is where the dog uses aggression to try to manifest his superiority over you and others around him. This is part of a dog's nature because dogs would normally battle for supremacy when left to their own devices.

The second type of dog aggression is fear-based aggression, where the dog shows aggression for fear of an occurrence of a negative incident or the repetition of a traumatic experience. This is considered as the most dangerous type of aggression because it makes the dog back down while waiting for an opportunity to strike when your guard is down. Finally, there is territorial aggression. This is the most common type of aggression and is especially apparent in dogs that were originally bred for guarding purposes.

Once you have identified the origin and type of aggression that your dog has, it will be much easier to pinpoint the necessary treatment or training method. You may want to consult the vet or a professional trainer to learn the best way to address your dog's specific case. And here's a bonus tip: Never begin training aggressive dogs by waking them up. If your dog is still sleeping, then wait for him to wake on his own before you start training. Interrupting a dog's slumber can result in bad temper and may only make training more difficult for you.
