Huaraz is the capital of the region of Ancash. It has a population of more than 153 000 inhabitants and it is located over 3 000 meters above sea. Situated in the central area of the zone known as "Callej?n de Huaylas", it is considered an economical, financial and tourism hub. Huaraz is also an adventure destination, since its many high peaks, perfect for the practice of climbing.
Near the city, visitors can find the Huascar?n National Park, where the highest mountain in Peru lies. This place was pronounced as a World Heritage by UNESCO in 1985. Since its large variety of flora, fauna and even archeological remains of the Chav?n culture, Huascar?n National Park attracts the interest of plenty of scientists and archeologists around the world.
