How Does A Tent Stack Up Against A Cabin

There are some people who want to go into the great outdoors and really rough it. That means they want to take a big tent and all of the the other supplies they will need to camp under the stars and commune with nature in the most natural way possible. This is fine if you really enjoy this sort of thing, but if you have never done it and you are wondering whether you want to go the tent route or if you had rather rent a cabin, perhaps this will help you make your decision.

When you are putting up a tent, you must know what you are doing and be sure to follow the instructions correctly or it could land on your head in the middle of the night if a good breeze comes along. If you plan to sleep in sleeping bags and you are accustomed to a nice soft, pillow top mattress, prepare yourself for a less than comfortable night. Some campers take a blow up mattress with them, at least the smart campers do. It is much more comfortable that way, unless, of course, it springs a leak in the night and you end up on the hard ground anyway.

There are a couple of different ways you can cook when you camp out. You can use a small propane stove or you can do it over an open fire. This will require a small grill of some kind. You can use rocks to build up the sides enough to place a pan or two on the grill right over the fire. You have to not let the fire get too big or everything will burn, if it is not big enough, it will take forever to cook anything. A camping stove might be your best bet if you are new to camping.

Going to the bathroom can be an interesting experience when you camp in a tent. You usually want to go a least a little ways from your tent to attend to your business and hopefully you remembered to bring the paper because there is no toilet. Most people will make do just fine, no pun intended, unless you happen to nestle your bottom too close to the vicious leaves known as poison oak, poison ivy, or sumac. A case of rear end rash has ruined many a camping trip.

If you really want to live this adventurous and often torturous outdoor life for a few days, then good luck and best wishes to you, but as for the ones who have been there and done that already, they are likely to be the tenants staying in the nice little cabins you passed on your way to the campground or more remote area.
